BROOKLYN, N.Y., Sept. 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Petri Plumbing, a leading Brooklyn-based plumbing and heating company established in 1906, is taking compassion one step further. The company is opening up their hearts and pocketbooks to team with Bay Ridge Cares to help meet needs in the community.
Bay Ridge Cares is a nonprofit organization that began after Hurricane Sandy in 2012. In the 28 days after the storm, the newly-established Bay Ridge Cares Kitchen served more than 25,000 meals. According to director Karen Tadross, the organization just kept going. And Petri Plumbing was more than willing to jump in and help.Continue Reading Leading home services company “goes for gold” in September.
“There’s such tremendous need in our community for people to get involved and do whatever it is they can do,” says Michael Petri, owner of Petri Heating & Plumbing. “This has become a neighborhood tradition for the past three years, and one we’re proud to be a part of.”
“It’s like a Red Cross type thing in our community,” says Tadross. “Wherever the need is, that’s where we try to help.
“One year the organization raised more than $40,000 for a little girl with leukemia. Another year they helped a family who lost their house at Christmas time. Toy drives and coat drives make area kids a little warmer. Several playgrounds and parks in Bay Ridge and nearby communities have been refurbished.
And pediatric cancer is always at the forefront. With September being Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the emphasis is even greater.
In September, every year, Bay Ridge Cares raises awareness by having “Go Gold” month. This particular area of Brooklyn is festooned with lights, ribbons, and signs. At Petri Plumbing, the dress code changes for all the employees during September. Regular uniforms are switched for gold ones. And a portion of each invoice Petri generates goes to Bay Ridge Cares.
“I encourage everyone to ‘Go Gold’ in whatever way you can, for all the little warriors who are in the battle of their lives right now,” says Petri.
“Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of fifteen, yet there is very little funding directed toward pediatric cancers,” says Tadross. “In fact, only 4 percent of federal funding for cancer research flows to the laboratories that study pediatric cancer, and that is what we seek to change through awareness.”
“There are so many the little things that Michael Petri and his group do that make it just a little more special,” Tadross says. “He does things that never get any publicity, like help needy people if they need new water heaters, and just go the extra mile to instill that spirit of caring into his employees.”
