Expanding its tankless water heater offering, A. O. Smith offers customers unparalleled installation flexibility

A. O. Smith, a leader in water heating and water treatment solutions, announces the launch of its Adapt™ Premium Condensing Gas Tankless Water Heaters with X3® Scale Prevention Technology. With new premium features, including an integrated recirculation pump and patented heat exchanger; enhanced installation flexibility and highly efficient performance, Adapt™ tankless meets the needs of busy contractors and homeowners alike.

Building on A. O. Smith’s legacy of innovation, this unit is the first tankless water heater designed and manufactured entirely by A. O. Smith. To enhance installation flexibility, the Adapt line offers two- and three-inch dual pipe venting, ½- and ¾-inch gas line options and universal indoor/outdoor installation.  A. O. Smith designed the units so they can be converted from natural gas to liquid propane in the field with an included kit. All of these features work together to provide plumbing professionals with unparalleled installation flexibility when working in the field. Plumbers now have a unit that conforms on the spot to fit their exact needs, no matter the install location, fuel type or existing venting.

“Innovation is at the heart of everything A. O. Smith does and the Adapt series is no different. When designing and manufacturing this product, flexibility was our top priority. We’re providing contractors with the ultimate hot water toolkit,” said Isaac Wilson, A. O. Smith tankless senior product manager. “We understand that contractors are not just in the field; they are also on the clock. With the Adapt line, contractors can meet a homeowner’s needs without having to go back to their wholesaler to get a different unit or without having to carry additional inventory in their truck— saving them both time and money.”

The Adapt tankless water heaters also include several high-end features that are frequently requested by homeowners, such as Wi-Fi capability for remote monitoring and peace of mind and an integrated recirculation pump that provides instant hot water and eliminates the time homeowners typically spend waiting at their fixture for the water to heat up.

Available in 160,000-; 180,000-, and 199,000-BTU/hr units, the Adapt line of water heaters fits a variety of needs. Plus, the unit is equipped with A. O. Smith’s patented X3® Scale Prevention Technology which inhibits scale build-up and corrosion to extend the life of the unit up to three times longer. With zero lifetime descaling maintenance, the Adapt tankless water heater meets the needs of busy installers and homeowners.  Units also qualify for numerous state and local rebates and are ENERGY STAR® certified.

New models combine advanced scale prevention with contractor-friendly features

A. O. Smith, a leader in water heating and water treatment solutions, announces the launch of its Concentric Vent Non-condensing Tankless Water Heater line with X3® Scale Prevention Technology. Expanding this patented technology to additional A. O. Smith tankless units showcases the company’s commitment to combating the number one enemy of tankless water heaters—scale buildup.

Scale accumulation in a tankless water heater compromises efficiency and performance while increasing maintenance costs. A. O. Smith’s breakthrough X3 Scale Prevention Technology ensures uninterrupted functionality, eliminates the need for scale-related maintenance and extends the lifespan of tankless units three times longer than unprotected units. Now, A. O. Smith is introducing this breakthrough technology to its non-condensing concentric vent tankless water heaters, offering residential contractors top-of-the-line technology in a lower-cost unit.

“Scale buildup has long been a major obstacle for tankless water heaters,” says Isaac Wilson, senior product manager at A. O. Smith. “With our X3 Technology, we’re addressing this challenge head on, ensuring like-new performance for the life of the product. By expanding X3 Technology to non-condensing models, we’re revolutionizing the market and empowering builders and installers with exceptional scale prevention capabilities for superior efficiency.”

Designed to meet the unique needs of industry professionals, this innovative product simplifies installations thanks to contractor-preferred concentric venting. The unit accommodates long venting runs and features quick natural-gas-to-propane field convertibility for added flexibility.

Plug-in model offers retrofit solution

A. O. Smith, a leader in water heating and water treatment, announces the launch of its Voltex® 120V Plug-In Heat Pump Water Heater (HPWH), an extension of the existing Voltex HPWH residential line. This new addition is specifically designed to meet the demands of gas replacements, offering an easy 120V installation that plugs into a standard electrical outlet.

The ongoing development of electrification and decarbonization requirements on the West Coast led A. O. Smith to create a heat pump water heater that provides a hassle-free transition from gas to electric water heaters. The Voltex 120V model can be plugged directly into a shared circuit wall outlet, ensuring a simplified installation process. Top water connections and a zero-clearance design support an easy installation for contractors and allow for the unit to be installed in a variety of applications. Furthermore, the Voltex 120V unit is ENERGY STAR® certified and qualifies for many federal, state and local utility rebates.

“The launch of the Voltex 120V model showcases A. O. Smith’s unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation and sustainability,” says Arthur Smith, A. O. Smith product manager. “With cutting-edge features like a new lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerant, R-513A, and the digital smart valve for superior hot water production, these advancements not only deliver exceptional efficiency but also play a significant role in reducing a home’s carbon footprint. At A. O. Smith, we’re dedicated to creating a greener future without compromising performance.”

One of the key advantages of the Voltex 120V HPWH is its ease of use and the added peace of mind it offers to homeowners. With whisper-quiet operation that eliminates the need for vibration isolation accessories, the unit ensures a quiet environment. Featuring a digital outlet temperature control, homeowners can easily set their desired water temperature without the need for a manual mixing valve, simplifying maintenance and providing added convenience for users. Additionally, the Voltex 120V HPWH comes equipped with an included leak sensor and shut off valve, providing enhanced protection and minimizing potential water damage. Homeowners can also stay informed and in control with iCOMM™ remote monitoring notifications, allowing for proactive monitoring and maintenance.

Because it plugs directly into a standard electrical outlet, the Voltex 120V HPWH is sized differently than other units from the Voltex family. Typically, contractors will need to size up to ensure that homeowners can continue to use hot water at the same rate. The Voltex 120V models are designed to provide similar First Hour Ratings to 30-, 40- and 50-gallon gas water heaters to cover the most common installations. To learn more about the product, professionals can visit the newly launched A. O. Smith website, which provides details to help best specify these units to ensure optimal performance.
