FORT RICHARDSON, A.K. (NOVEMBER 19, 2013) — Having recently moved to a new building, the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) Chaplain Family Life and Training Center was recently given the opportunity to develop an after-hours ministry for its members. The center provides individual, marriage and family counseling to service personnel at the base.
With the plan of creating a new café in the center to capitalize on a newly donated coffee machine, the construction unit faced the challenge of determining how to run new plumbing lines without undertaking the expensive and time-consuming task of breaking through concrete to install conventional below-floor drainage.
At that point, volunteer James Rheault stepped in to help find a solution and discovered that the SANISWIFT drain pump from SFA Saniflo U.S.A. was an ideal fit, in large part because it can handle multiple fixtures.
“After doing some research online,” he explains, “I felt that this product was the most reliable solution and best met the needs of the application,” which involves pumping waste water from a small sink in the café as well as from the new coffee machine.
Rheault subsequently contacted Saniflo headquarters in Edison, N.J., to request a donation, to which the company readily agreed. “We are happy to help the center and the military personnel it serves,” says CEO Regis Saragosti.
Developed as an alternative to below-floor plumbing, the compact SANISWIFT is designed to pump wastewater away from any type of sink — bath, kitchen or laundry. It can also be used with a washing machine (indirect connection) or a dishwasher. With its smooth, rounded contours, the unit slips neatly and attractively into tight spaces where other pumps, with their bulkier commercial designs, can neither fit nor look as good.
The first of its kind, the new after-hours ministry center will stage a grand opening in January 2014, according to Rheault.
“The outlook is that the center will be very successful and serve as a way to enhance our counseling services,” he says. “We are very thankful for Saniflo’s donation, and glad that we can move forward with the new center.”
