The addition of 4-in-1 Low Loss Header (LLH) accessory closes the gap to provide a fully contained boiler system

Bosch Thermotechnology, a leading global source of high-quality heating and cooling systems, today announced its Stainless Steel Boiler (SSB) Low Loss Header (LLH) accessory, completing its SSB System for a fully contained, compact boiler solution.

The Bosch SSB LLH 4-in-1 combination separator incorporates hydraulic separation, air separation, dirt separation and ferrous impurity separation. The dirt and magnetic separator helps to ensure clean water circulation through the boiler loop. With one hot water supply and one water return, every connection is only used once. Temperature is not an issue with this system, which is ideal for temperatures from 32 – 194˚F without insulation.

“We’re thrilled to be the first in the market to provide four-in-one performance functionality for a fully contained boiler system,” said Christopher Kyes, Product Manager at Bosch Thermotechnology. “This full system provides simple installation and maintenance, whether in a new build or retrofitting to an existing building, offering a high efficiency boiler solution.”

The Bosch SSB Low Loss Header features include:

  • Hydraulic separation, air separation, dirt separation, and ferrous impurity separation
  • Suitable for water and glycol solutions
  • Max Pressure range 80 PSI
  • Pipes can be fitted on either side of the boiler
  • Integrated 75PSI pressure relief valves
  • 5-year non-prorated heat exchanger warranty

The SSB System was engineered by Bosch on a single platform design, making installation and commissioning easy, regardless of the output required. With an efficiency of 96 percent, the SSB is loaded with standard features that include dedicated boiler pumps, two heat exchangers and on-board control with weather compensation, practical control solutions for any application and several venting options, as well as many other features.

This beautiful contemporary design home in Harrisburg, Pa., was built by Alex Grass, founder of Rite-Aid pharmacy, in the early 1970s. When Mr. Rill purchased the sprawling 7,382 sq. ft. home from the late Alex Grass estate, he knew he would need to make some upgrades.

Project Goals

√ Convert from an outdated oil system to a highly-efficient geothermal system

√ Reduce sky-high operating and maintenance costs

√ Increase comfort and improve level of control

√ Decrease large footprint of complex system in the basement

Equipped with a commercial boiler and chiller system using pneumatic controls, the residence cost Mr. Rill about $6,000 per month for electricity and heating oil. The complex pneumatic controls resulted in numerous service calls, averaging $700 per call. Excessive space required for the HVAC system, associated piping, ductwork, and controls in basement were less than ideal. Mr. Rill opted for a more efficient, cost-saving and simple system that would be easier to control and service.

As Michael Armstrong, Residential Sales Manager, Morrison Inc. explains, the needs of Mr. Rill’s family were taken into careful consideration, “This proposal was based upon a thorough heat loss/gain done on the structure using the original blueprints and then calculating the needs of the customer to design and adapt the existing ducting to provide comfort zones meeting the family’s lifestyle.” With this information, Armstrong moved forward with a highly-tailored system, “comprising of six closed loop Bosch SM two-stage water-to-air geothermal heat pump units feeding 11 different air zones.

“We were able to work in stages to allow a transition from the original system to the new geothermal system, thus allowing the family to stay in their home during the entire installation and removal process.”

In addition to the water-to-air systems, we proposed and installed a closed loop Bosch TW035 two-stage water-to-water geothermal heat pump unit which provides the home with all of its domestic hot water. The hot water system was coupled with a 120 gallon in-line storage tank to feed into the home’s existing recirculating domestic hot water piping. The total capacity of the geothermal system was 31 tons with 4,650 feet of closed loop vertical bore and 9,300 feet of HDPE piping.” All Bosch geothermal units have factory installed auxiliary electric heat coils as a secondary heat source if needed.

Finding the Remedy

Mr. Rill and his family are extremely happy with their decision to convert to a geothermal system. The home is now totally electric, with the highest single monthly electric bill being $1,141, during one of the region’s coldest winters on record! “Mr. Rill keeps detailed usage records and says he cannot be happier. The comfort level is fantastic and he loves the fact that he can set the various areas of his home to the temperature that he wants,” says Armstrong.

Bosch Thermotechnology announced the release of its Climate 5000 Mini-Split Gen 2, a ductless system suitable for both residential and light commercial applications. The new, second-generation mini-split lineup expands the first generation lineup with enhanced performance, redesigned wall-mounted units; new four-way cassettes; and concealed ducted systems.

The Climate 5000 Mini-Split Gen 2 is a versatile heating and cooling option that is easy to install, easier to use, and delivers consistent temperature and humidity levels throughout desired spaces by making a series of automatic adjustments. An ENERGY STAR® rated single-zone and multi-zone system, it uses a combination of efficient technologies to achieve up to 25 SEER, significantly exceeding the 14 SEER requirement for ductless systems set by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Unique to the Climate 5000 Ductless System 2.0 Series, the mini-split offers a HyperHeat System – a heating and cooling function that does not require additional accessories to maintain comfortable temperatures even when outdoor conditions dip as low as -22 degrees Fahrenheit.

“The second generation of our Climate 5000 series provides on-demand comfort that is flexible, simple to install and easy to maintain,” said Andrew Archambault, senior product manager for Bosch Thermotechnology. “The reduced ductwork offerings comprise a smaller footprint, and some models allow for longer refrigerant piping than traditional systems. These improvements maximize contractors’ efficiency by enabling them to quickly complete new installations.”

The Climate 5000 Mini-Split Gen 2 is equipped with advanced energy-saving inverter drive technology that minimizes expenses while maintaining sound levels as low as 20 dBA when silence mode is activated. Each sunit features a turbo function that offers faster cooling and heating than traditional systems to deliver optimal comfort. The redesigned, wall-mounted Indoor units are available in new four-way cassette and concealed ducted options.

Optional wired wall thermostats and 24V interfaces are also available. The 24V interface will allow the Climate 5000 Mini-Split Gen 2 to work with 24V thermostats such as the Bosch BCC100 and BCC50, as well as various standard thermostats on the market. The wired-wall thermostat works in all indoor environments and offers a “Follow Me” feature that detects room temperatures.

The Climate 5000 Mini-Split is available to major distributors throughout North America. Visit the Climate 5000 Ductless System 2.0 Series page for more information.
