Winsupply Inc., one of the largest distributors in the nation, has opened Winwater of Northeast Arkansas, serving waterworks contractors throughout the northeast part of the state. The company is located just east of Jonesboro in Lake City.

Tony Robinson is the president of the new company. He leads a team of four who have 25 combined years of experience in the waterworks industry. Tony and his team formerly were part of Little Rock Winwater and had been operating in Lake City as a satellite location. The two companies now operate separately but are both part of Winsupply Inc.

“Tony is an experienced business owner with years of experience in waterworks products and has established customer relationships in the northeast part of Arkansas,” said Roland Gordon, president and CEO of Winsupply Inc. “Tony took advantage of what we call the ‘Spirit of Opportunity’ at Winsupply in which we share ownership in the company. He can now work with his customers in an owner-to-owner relationship with local decision-making authority.”

In the Winsupply co-ownership business model, Winsupply Inc. has majority equity in each of its locations, while the local company president and sometimes employees own substantial equity. With this model, local companies have the autonomy and flexibility to decide how best to meet the needs of the customers in their markets. Co-ownership gives them “skin in the game,” pride of ownership and the ability to share in the company’s profits without caps. Winsupply provides its local company locations purchasing power, distribution and other support services such as business consulting, accounting, payroll, IT and marketing. The centralized support allows local operators to focus on their customers, local markets and products.

There are some 580 Winsupply locations across the United States serving the residential and commercial construction and industrial markets with supplies and materials.

Winsupply Inc., a leading supplier of residential and commercial construction and industrial supplies and materials, announced Roland Gordon has been named chief executive officer of the company, effective Jan. 31. Gordon retains his title as president of Winsupply. Jack Johnston is stepping down from the executive leadership role after leading the company through successive years of record growth. Johnston remains a member of the Winsupply Board of Directors.

Johnston, who joined Winsupply in 1977 when it was an $84 million company, said, “I’ve been honored to be part of Winsupply for 40 years and to serve as CEO for the past year and a half. I thank our more than 5,000 employees at the local companies and the centralized support teams for delivering exceptional service to our loyal customers and growing our company.

“I’ve been planning this succession for quite some time, and I have great confidence in Roland, his leadership and in the executive team we’ve built. Roland is the right person to lead Winsupply and execute our multi-pronged strategy for continued growth. I couldn’t be happier with the state of Winsupply as I step into retirement.”

Gordon, who was named president in 2016, has served in leadership roles at Winsupply for 18 years. “I am stepping into the role of chief executive at a time when Winsupply has positive growth momentum under Jack’s leadership,” Gordon said. “I’m committed to carrying forward our company’s shared ownership philosophy, principles for success and strategic objectives that will help enable us to continue to grow in 2017 and beyond.

“Winsupply will conclude the current fiscal year on Jan. 31 and we anticipate another record year. The entire executive team and I are upbeat about the future because of ourhard-working employees, their loyalty and get-it-done attitude. The employees are dedicated to achieving our vision: To create loyal, profitable customers by offering them superior solutions for their everyday needs and unique challenges.

“I want to thank Jack and his predecessor, Rick Schwartz, for the exemplary models they set as chief executive officer.”

Winsupply ended fiscal 2016 (Jan. 31, 2016) with $2.7 billion in revenue.

Johnston joined Winsupply as an accountant with Winsupply Group Services (WGS), the organization providing complete shared business services for Winsupply local companies. He became WGS treasurer in 1980, and was named president in 1998. In 2005, Johnston became chief financial officer of Winsupply Inc. North Star Water Treatment Systems, a preferred water treatment systems provider to professional contractors through plumbing wholesale, launched a major brand overhaul this week. The effort was initiated to completely update the brand’s image and logo in order to better reflect its industry leading technology and expanding product offering. The company has been known as North Star Water Conditioning since its inception in 1992.

“We felt it was high time for our brand to better convey our modern technology and broader product portfolio,” comments Dave Duren, director of sales and marketing for North Star Water Treatment Systems. “Our old branding was too limiting and didn’t properly reflect the advanced technologies built into our products. And while plumbers and wholesalers have enjoyed our point-of-entry water softeners for many years, they haven’t always been aware that we also offer a dramatically expanding line of drinking water filtration and other products.”

The company plans to launch more than 50 new SKUs during the first six months of the year, including new POU filtration products, in-line whole home filtration and a new commercial water softener line, among others. The products will launch in phases beginning in February. “The plumbing channel has always loved our cutting-edge products and asked us to develop a broader line. We are answering their request in a major way,” Duren explains.

Wholesalers, contractors and consumers will see the new branding replace the older logos and images throughout the next few months. “We’re upgrading our product packaging, marketing collateral, website, you name it,” says Duren. “We want everyone to know us as North Star Water Treatment Systems and recognize our longevity and reliability.”

Located in Woodbury, Minnesota, North Star Water Treatment Systems is the professionals’ choice for water treatment and is distributed exclusively through plumbing wholesale. A member of the Marmon Water family and part of Berkshire Hathaway, the company has been manufacturing water treatment products since 1925. Marmon Water is the largest manufacturer of water treatment systems in the world.
