Business owners across all trades are embracing AI to boost productivity and reclaim time—
while keeping the skilled, hands-on work human-first

Housecall Pro, a leading software platform for home service professionals, today released its 2025 AI Adoption in Home Services Industry Report, revealing that artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the trades—not by replacing skilled workers, but by enhancing their efficiency and accelerating business growth.

According to the report, 54% of business owners under 35 are already using AI to automate parts of their operations, roughly twice the rate of those over 65. Notably, AI adoption is consistent across business sizes. From solo owner-operators to 50+-person companies, small shops are embracing AI nearly as much as large ones.

The study makes clear that home service pros are using AI to offload back-office tasks, not field work. The most common uses of AI are automating marketing, customer service, scheduling and paperwork.

“In other words, AI is handling the busywork while the pro handles the wrench work,” said Roland Ligtenberg, Housecall Pro Co-Founder and Senior Vice President of Innovation and Growth. “Our industry is built on human skill and trust. Fixing a furnace, rewiring a house, comforting a customer, that remains the domain of people. What’s changing is that now every contractor can have AI team members to tackle the tedious stuff in the background. It’s making the one-person shop as efficient as a larger company.”

Over 80% of contractors using AI say the tools met or exceeded their expectations. On average, AI adopters reclaimed over four hours per week from admin tasks like writing emails, data entry and follow-ups.

“Time is money in the trades, and AI is giving time back,” Ligtenberg said. “Think of a plumber who normally spends hours a week on invoices and scheduling. If AI frees up those hours, that’s a few more service calls he can take or a few more hours of hard-earned rest and family time. Skilled tradespeople do what AI can’t.”

According to the report, 57% of AI-using contractors say it’s helped their business grow. It does so mainly by capturing more leads and jobs (through faster response times and never missing a call) and boosting marketing reach with AI-generated ads and content.

The report portrays an optimistic future where AI becomes standard in the trades but remains in a supporting role.

“We’re at a tech inflection point in an industry that’s traditionally been all analog,” Ligtenberg said. “What we’re seeing is not a takeover by robots, but an augmentation of human workers. We believe the future trades professionals will use AI as naturally as a power tool or a smartphone, just like any other tool in their toolbelt.”

Housecall Pro, the go-to software platform for over 45,000 home service companies, has announced the winners of its 2025 Trade Academy Scholarship program. A total of 50 winners were selected from trade schools and programs across the United States, including students pursuing vocational training in the plumbing, electrical and HVAC fields.

“The skilled trades provide essential services to home and business owners across the country. To ensure continued access to those services, it’s vital to invest in the next generation of tradespeople,” said Roland Ligtenberg, Housecall Pro co-founder and SVP of Innovation. “Education in the skilled trades is not only important for bridging the skills gap but also for empowering students to pursue meaningful careers that make a positive impact in people’s lives.”

Since 2021, Housecall Pro has awarded more than a quarter million dollars in total scholarships, increasing the number of recipients year after year. The scholarships are provided in tandem with WD-40 — in its fourth year as a scholarship partner — and SupplyHouse, which is in its second year as a partner.

Recipients of the scholarship are all enrolled in vocational training for the spring semester. Each receives:

    1. A $2,500 financial scholarship to their trade school or program, with $50K contributed by WD-40® and $25K contributed by SupplyHouse
    2. A Milwaukee M18 FUEL 2-Tool Combo Kit contributed provided by SupplyHouse
    3. Housecall Pro one-year Essentials membership

This is the first year in which HouseCall Pro has reached 50 total scholarships awarded, demonstrating a growing investment in the future of the skilled trades. It also marks the first time the Trade Academy Scholarship program, historically focused on the HVAC field, has expanded its pool of recipients to include students in the plumbing and electrical trades.

“The goal of the Trade Academy Scholarship program is to make a real difference in the lives of aspiring tradespeople, equipping them for lasting success in their training and ultimately in their careers,” Ligtenberg said. “We are thrilled to be empowering students spanning multiple essential trades.”

This year’s scholarship recipients include students from vocational schools and programs across the country spanning multiple generations. However, many qualify as members of Gen Z — further demonstrating that the Trade Academy Scholarship program is committed to the future of the trades.

“We’re seeing more and more evidence of Gen Z looking to the trades as a meaningful career path. Their commitment to mastering best-in-class digital tools suggests a real desire to make the trades more efficient and more accessible,” said Ligtenberg.

The scholarship program is just one example of the company’s investment in the future of skilled trade education. The Housecall Pro for Education program partners with trade schools across the country to equip students with the tools, technology and mentorship opportunities needed to jumpstart their careers. By integrating Housecall Pro into trade school curriculums, students gain real-world experience before they even enter the workforce.

New features, driven by feedback from thousands of Housecall Pro customers, help streamline operations and enhance revenue potential even in the slowest seasons

Housecall Pro, the premier software platform serving over 45,000 home service companies, announces today a rollout of new product features and enhancements that spotlight the company’s dedication to providing home service pros with the tools they need to streamline operations, improve efficiency and grow revenue.

“Our primary driver has always been to find and create solutions to the challenges home service business owners are facing, whether that’s daily challenges or even seasonal ones,” said Ian Heidt, President and Co-founder of Housecall Pro. “Thanks to feedback from more than 8,000 pros, we were able to prioritize the products and features that will help them the most. From attracting more loyal customers to getting through the slow season, our updates are designed with their needs in mind.”

Ongoing updates are intended to help users grow revenue, manage jobs, get paid and run their businesses more efficiently.

Several features have been added or updated, including but not limited to:

  • New and improved online booking tool: Customers can now book from any device, day or night, with the all-new free online booking tool, to help increase the number of bookings for contractors. This feature also simplifies recurring appointments with new integrations featuring Reserve with Google and Customer Portal.
  • Dashcam + Vehicle GPS tracking: The latest update features 24/7 video monitoring for vehicles, allowing contractors to see what’s happening inside and out of their trucks. This feature also promotes driver safety by automatically recording clips of unsafe behavior and disturbances.
  • Improved price book: Housecall Pro has introduced a new collection of common industry services to their price book featuring homeowner-friendly descriptions, giving service technicians a clear way to communicate the value they offer homeowners.
  • Offline viewing for scheduling: Poor cell reception no longer hinders technicians from accessing scheduling data with the new offline feature. This feature allows technicians to access stored job data with minimal interruptions, even in areas with no Wi-Fi or cell reception.
  • Pipeline improvements: Contractors can set up both text and email automations to ensure no customer or opportunity falls through the cracks. This improves efficiency and consistency by automating routine tasks, such as follow-ups and notifications, and ensures that communication with leads and jobs happen on a regular schedule. The bulk archive feature is another addition designed to reduce clutter by allowing contractors to quickly clear out completed or outdated items from their list.

The latest round of updates comes on the heels of Housecall Pros’ AI Team launch in May, which gave home service pros the opportunity to expand their capacity, thanks to on-demand artificial intelligence team members.

As Housecall Pro continues to evolve, more updates are scheduled including:

  • Housecall Pro Accounting.
  • Optimized and segmentable invoice reporting.
  • Improved interactive voice response (IVR) that assists in blocking spam.

“Home service pros are some of the hardest working people on the planet,” Heidt said. “That’s why we continue to offer solutions that will help them streamline their operations, work smarter, provide for their employees and grow their businesses. Everything we do is to help home service businesses not only succeed but thrive. At the end of the day, that’s how we measure our success.”
