Kinetic Water Ram
General Pipe Cleaners’ Kinetic Water Ram® uses a burst of compressed air that drives a shock wave (kinetic energy) through water to break up the stoppage. The shock wave bypasses vents and stacks to break up clogged drains. You get instant impact with no pressure build up. The built-in pump and pressure gauge lets you choose the right amount of force for each job. Thanks to technical advancements, the device is designed to deliver effective results without risking damage to the plumbing system. To some, this might sound too easy and create the belief that the shock wave will damage pipes or cause a bigger issue. Well, that isn’t the case, and following, we will discuss the top myths of the Kinetic Water Ram and how to properly use the product.
Myth #1 – “This will damage the pipe.”
The Kinetic Water Ram does not pressurize the pipe, so the thought that it will burst the pipe due to the introduction of PSI, is not correct. The Kinetic Water Ram creates a shock action that travels through the pipe like a wave and goes around tight bends that quickly and effectively clears the obstruction and flushes water particles away. This method is efficient and reduces the risk of harming pipes.
Myth #2 – “I’m going to get wet every time.”
Now, while you could get wet the first time you use it, you shouldn’t get wet every time you use the Kinetic Water Ram. We recommend pumping the machine up to 10 lbs., and if that doesn’t work, move up to 5 lbs. increments until the stoppage is clear. You will want to start slowly and gradually work your way up in pressure as necessary. You also need to hold the Kinetic Water Ram down with as much force as you’re discharging. If you don’t do this crucial step, then the pressurized water stream will blow away from the pipe and you’ll get soaked. If you start with too high of a pressure, then you will have more difficulty holding it down. Proper technique with the Kinetic Water Ram ensures a dry, mess-free experience, unlike what many assume.
Myth #3 – “I only need to pay attention to the drain I’m working on.”
Pay attention to your surroundings! If you’re using the Kinetic Water Ram at a school or a business, take note of where the pipes might lead. If you have sinks that are next to each other that are connected to the same pipe, when you use the Kinetic Water Ram on the blocked sink, water will very likely shoot out of the other sink or sinks. In order to prevent this, you will need to plug up all the other exit points when clearing lines. This proactive approach confirms that you productively tackle the clogged sink without causing additional disruptions.
Myth #4 – “I can use the Kinetic Water Ram on any job.”
No one machine is perfect for every job. With the Kinetic Water Ram the most effective situation is to have standing water between you and the obstruction. If the water is moving slowly, that’s when it’s perfect to use a snake style machine like the Power-Vee or Super-Vee. It’s important to recognize what type of job you’re about to tackle and determine whether you should use a jetter, Kinetic Water Ram or a snake style machine, as not every tool will be perfect for the job.
Design and Operation
The design of the Kinetic Water Ram includes a built-in pump and pressure gauge that allows users to control the intensity of the air burst. The tool is shaped to fit securely against a drain opening, ensuring that the kinetic energy is directed precisely where it is needed. This setup prevents the buildup of pressure within the plumbing system itself, which could otherwise lead to damage. The simplicity of the device—requiring only the application of air pressure—makes it invaluable in the arsenal of plumbing tools, being both portable and easy to operate.
Kinetic Energy at Work
The principle behind the Kinetic Water Ram is the conversion of compressed air into kinetic energy. When the device is activated, it releases this energy in a controlled shock action that travels through water in the pipe like a wave. This wave is powerful enough to dislodge difficult blockages caused by common debris such as hair, grease, or soap residue, bypassing vents and stacks that could dissipate the energy ineffectively.
If you learn how to work the Kinetic Water Ram properly then it will soon become a favorite of your hand tools in your truck. The Kinetic Water Ram is a quick and efficient drain cleaning machine that clears drains within minutes. Mastering the Kinetic Water Ram is about appreciating its design and utilizing its capabilities to the fullest to efficiently clear drains.

When Murdock Plumbing & Heating confronts clogs in inside lines, they grab their “one-two punch.”
That’s what owner Robert “Bob” Murdock calls his arsenal of two hand-held drain cleaners from General Pipe Cleaners: the innovative Kinetic Water Ram® and Super-Vee® power drain cleaning machine.
Experience matters. For nearly 45 years, his company has professionally served residential and commercial customers in the Elmira, NY area. They know Bob knows his job.
Proper tools count, too. “Drain cleaning is difficult,” he declares. “And you’ll never get very far without rugged, reliable equipment!”
Terrific Tag-Team Terminates Troubles
For decades, Bob has teamed both General tools in sequence to clear just most inside obstructions he finds. And he always starts with the Kinetic Water Ram.
Since the early 1970s, General’s pioneering drain cleaning tool has quickly cleared clogged lines with the power of kinetic energy. One long-time customer humorously dubs it “Bob’s Bazooka.”
Just pump it up, insert into a drain with standing water – and snap the trigger. It’s that fast.
Fast & Eco-Friendly
Lightweight and economical, the futuristic Kinetic Water Ram generates a shock wave that instantly pulverizes stoppages in 1-1/4″ to 4″ lines – yet won’t harm pipes.
The shock wave bypasses vents and bends to batter blockages. And the tool’s built-in pump and pressure gauge lets operators choose the right amount of force for each job.
“Don’t over-pump it,” Bob quickly counsels. “We’ve found that 10 lbs. is usually enough to start with.”
Environmentally friendly, compact, portable Kinetic Water Ram is cleaner than snakes – and safer than chemicals.
Unlike some competitive devices, it requires no electrical power or CO2 gas. And it’s great for a range of plumbing, drain cleaning, maintenance, restoration, and rental applications.
Versatile & Safe
“It works great on 3/4″ air-conditioning condenser lines, too,” Bob injects. “And we don’t have to worry about electrical dangers!”
General’s sleek, plated Kinetic Water Ram also comes in a sturdy carrying case with molded compartments for the tool and accessories. A Schraeder valve for use with an external air compressor when clearing difficult blockages is also provided.
An optional toilet attachment screws onto the front of Kinetic Water Ram, turning it into a powerful plunger. The specially designed accessory precisely positions in bowls for a tight seal, hitting blockages with maximum impact – and no splash back.
His Innovative Alternative
But Bob’s somewhat old-fashioned. “I personally prefer our General Teletube® Flexicore® closet auger on toilet back-ups!” he winks.
The heavy-duty tool remains the industry’s most durable and versatile closet auger. General’s dual layer cable construction with a wire rope inner core can navigate nearly any toilet bowl – yet resists kinking and breaking and excels at clearing clogs just beyond the bowl.
Just push the button for three extra feet of Flexicore cable inside the guide tube. With a total reach of six feet, there’s usually no need to pull the toilet.
More Muscle on Tougher Troubles
If Kinetic Water Ram doesn’t pulverize the problem, Bob grabs his Super-Vee.
Easy-to-use, hand-held Super-Vee quickly unclogs sink, shower, toilet, and laundry lines up to 3″ in diameter. It’s so rugged that many last for decades without replacement. It’s that reliable.
General’s quick, convenient Slide-Action™ chuck engages and releases Flexicore cable by simply sliding the Super-Vee’s Grip-Shield forward or back – even while cable rotates.
The chuck also automatically adjusts to 1/4″ through 3/8″ diameter cables. And General’s quick-change cartridges let users easily switch or clean cables without delay or mess.
Industry-Leading Cable
Tightly wound over a wire rope core, then heat-treated, General’s legendary Flexicore design gives cables outstanding strength – without sacrificing flexibility.
And Flexicore is so tough, it carries a one-year warranty against breakage – the industry’s best.
A robust range of cables and cutters is available, too.
Powered by a variable speed motor, today’s Super-Vee carries up to 50 ft. of 1/4″ or 5/16″, or 35 ft. of 3/8″ Flexicore cable. Bob prefers 3/8″ cable.
And accessories include the novel Handy-Stand™ and Uni-Stand™ to facilitate working in cramped spots.
The Bottom Line
If neither the Kinetic Water Ram or Super-Vee works, it’s usually a pipe pitch problem, Bob says – necessitating line replacement.
“We can handle that, too,” he adds, shaking his head. “We’re finding lots of improperly installed drain lines.”
“Regardless, we’re going to stay on a clogged drain until it’s unplugged,” Bob Murdock vows. “And our General tools help assure that.”

“I don’t want competitors to know I use this tool. Some customers think I have super powers.”
That’s Omar Taylor talking about the lightweight, compact Kinetic Water Ram® from General Pipe Cleaners.
The innovative tool safely, quickly and cleanly clears clogged sinks and showers, toilets and tubs with Kinetic Energy. And it’s given the young, Indiana-based plumber a clear competitive edge.
Taylor comes from three generations of professionals. In business for over six years, he routinely subcontracts for a major national plumbing and drain cleaning company specializing in franchise services.
“Jobs that take guys an hour with cable machines, I do in just 5 minutes,” he says. “It’s like they say in the movie, ‘Who you gonna call?’ With my Kinetic Water Ram, I handle emergencies super quick!”
Fast, Clean Work
That’s why Taylor prefers General’s pioneering tool for rapidly clearing many common residential and commercial clogs. Call it his “secret identity”!
“I’ve earned a reputation for prompt, clean service with minimal disruption,” he says. “Most customers can’t believe how fast I handle their problems.”
Kinetic Water Ram unleashes a powerful burst of compressed air that drives a shock wave (kinetic energy) through water at 4,700 ft./second – instantly breaking up the stoppage. There’s no pressure build-up within the system, either. The shock wave bypasses stacks and vents. 98% of the force is directed down the line and only 2% against pipe walls.
The Kinetic Water Ram easily clears hair, rust, grease, sediment, and scale from lines from 1-1/4″ up to 4″ in diameter. It’s especially effective clearing slow draining tubs when the stoppage is on the far side of a drum trap – or through narrow lines in trailer homes that can be hard on a snake.
Amazing Versatility
Taylor first learned of the Kinetic Water Ram when a training supervisor watched him struggle snaking the old trap of a clogged basement shower drain.
“After a while he said, ‘Let me show you how to really do it, son’,” Taylor recalls. “The supervisor got his Kinetic Water Ram, pumped it up, and immediately cleared the clog.”
That’s when Taylor became a true believer.
“The Kinetic Water Ram is perfect for all kinds of drain cleaning problems,” he claims. “It’s amazing on grease in kitchen sinks, hair and scum in bathtubs, and toilet paper and disposable wipes in commodes.”
An optional toilet attachment screws onto the front of the Kinetic Water Ram – permitting firmer positioning in the bowl and acting like a powerful plunger.
The Pro’s Favorite
And Omar Taylor’s not the only “true believer.”
“It takes longer to write-up the bill than to unclog a drain with that tool.” says Dale Smith, owner of D. Smith Plumbing Services in Jayess, Mississippi.
“When several people call you early in the morning or late at night, you can’t afford to spend 3 or 4 hours at each place,” Smith adds. “The Kinetic Water Ram lets me do multiple jobs daily – with time to spare.”
Dale Smith calls it “amazing” on bathtubs. “I’ve cleared hundreds – many with old-fashioned lever-actuated stoppers that prevent me from using a cable machine,” he notes. “Kinetic Water Ram handles them all.”
Compact Design Scores Points
Smith also values the tool’s portability.
“In the past, I’ve snaked through roof vents to clear clogs,” he says. That meant dragging a heavy, awkward cable machine to the roof. “Now I can handle most jobs with my lightweight Kinetic Water Ram.”
General’s tool comes standard with flexible cone seals from 1-1/4″ to 4″ in diameter, caulking hose, and five tapered valves for sealing openings from 1-1/4″ through 4”. A Schraeder valve for use with an external air compressor when clearing difficult blockages is also provided.
Boosting Professionalism & Productivity
“It’s super-simple to use,” Omar Taylor concludes.
Simply pump the Kinetic Water Ram to the desired pressure, plug overflows to prevent splash back, and firmly position the flexible cone over the drain opening. One snap of the trigger unleashes a powerful shock wave, instantly clearing clogs.
That’s especially important when customers see Taylor clearing clogged drains with such amazing speed and cleanliness.
“They think I’m a ‘Super Hero’ of Indiana plumbers,” Taylor jokes. “That’s why I like keeping my Kinetic Water Ram secret from competitors!”
