(November 4, 2016) ― The DXV collection of 3D printed residential faucets ― the Vibrato, Trope and Shadowbrook styles ― have been named a 2016 R&D 100 Award finalist in the Process and Prototyping category. This year’s R&D 100 Award winners were announced on Nov. 3 at a black-tie awards dinner at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Oxon Hill, Md. The Vibrato, Trope and Shadowbrook models are the first-ever collection of 3D printed metal faucets created using Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS), a revolutionary additive manufacturing process. While this technique has been used to create plastic prototypes for years, these are the first ready-for-market residential faucets printed in metal. “This prestigious recognition is a meaningful validation of the incredible efforts put forth by our DXV product design team. They pushed the boundaries of cutting-edge technologies to make it possible to create the delicate and dazzling forms of these 3D printed faucets,” said Jean-Jacques L’Henaff, vice president of design for faucets and fixtures — and team lead on the 3D faucet development — for LIXIL Water Technology Americas, the global business unit under which DXV operates.

The faucets are printed using a computer-guided laser beam that fuses powdered metal into the desired shape with high heat and pressure. A solid metal block gradually arises out of the powder, and is then hand-finished to smooth extraneous metal and reveal the design. In a revival of bespoke craftsmanship, the faucet is then hand-finished by an artisan who gives it a rich, fine patina and feel that mimics the texture found on antique silver pieces. This 3D printing process opens up exciting possibilities for the design and function of faucets, enabling avant-garde ways to present water and completely redefine the user experience, as each of the DXV 3D printed faucets distinctly showcases. “These unique faucets represent a continuation of our proud 140-year-old tradition of innovation and incredible craftsmanship, starting with American Standard Brands and growing further with our luxury DXV line,” said Maha El Kharbotly, chief marketing officer for LIXIL Water Technology Americas. “We are so proud of this well-deserved honor and remain committed to our role as a leader in the paradigm shift represented by additive manufacturing in the building and construction industry.”

The R&D 100 Awards — widely regarded as the “Oscars of Invention” —  began in 1963 to recognize revolutionary technologies in the marketplace. Past winners reign from industry, academia and government-sponsored research, and have featured biomedical products, consumer goods, chemistry breakthroughs, innovative new materials, high-energy physics and sophisticated testing equipment. These first-of-their-kind DXV 3D printed faucets have also recognized for their styling and operational innovation by the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) as their 2016 Best of Show Gold winner in the Bath category; a Best of BDwest Product Design Award from Boutique Design; a Platinum A’ Design Award; and a Silver International Design Excellence Award (IDEA).

The latest version of the Geberit Now DVD-ROM, subtitled “The sheer beauty of water,” offers current product and technical information for Geberit space- and water-saving products, including the latest In-Wall Tank and Carrier Systems, manual and sensor-operated Flush Plates, designer-styled Bath Waste and Overflow products, and the Monolith floor and wall mount toilet systems. The disc is a perfect reference for the designer, architect, installer, contractor or anyone interested in a complete bathroom experience.

The Geberit Now DVD-ROM provides a plethora of inspirational designs and technical information. It also contains installation instructions, repair parts, rough-in drawings, Revit® files, specification sheets and installation and product demonstration videos. The disc is organized by product category, with technical and literature libraries, media and product images, and videos in each category for easy reference.

“The easily navigated DVD-ROM features all of our newest products such as the new 2×4 carrier system, the newest designs in touch free and manual actuators like the Sigma Series and more,” says Pete Christofferson, Marketing Services Manager, Geberit North America. “The disc provides everything designers need to specify Geberit in their projects.”

Because the tank is hidden behind the wall, the Geberit in-wall toilet system increases usable space in full bathrooms and powder rooms while the convenient dual-flush actuator saves water. The Monolith floor and wall mount systems offers designers a striking option to use in place of the toilet tank while offering easy accessibility for maintenance. Geberit’s easily-installed, cable-operated BWOs are available in a wide range of colors and finishes and ensure simple, safe installation in almost any construction situation.

The Geberit Group is an integrated, global company and European leader in the field of sanitary products, headquartered in Switzerland. Geberit maintains a strong local presence on most continents, including North America, providing concealed systems for wall-hung and floor-mounted toilets and fixtures. Geberit systems improve the look of any bathroom by hiding unsightly plumbing hardware. Replacing a standard toilet with the Geberit system results in more usable space, improved hygiene and better accessibility. The unique dual-flush valve saves water and is practically maintenance free. Geberit also offers cable-controlled bath waste and overflows in a variety of designer finishes. Critical working parts are outside the waterway, ensuring years of trouble-free operation. With 35 production facilities and more than 12,000 employees in over 40 countries, Geberit generated net sales of CHF 2.6 billion in 2015. The Geberit shares are listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange; since 2012, the Geberit share has been included in the SMI (Swiss Market Index).
