Product innovations impress ACHR News’s Dealer Design Award judges; ULN Series wins silver award.

Nortek Global HVAC (NGH), an industry-leading HVAC equipment manufacturer, was recognized for product design excellence in the 2022 Dealer Design Awards (DDA) Program, sponsored by trade publication, The Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration News (ACHRNews) magazine.

NGH’s Ultra-Low NOx (ULN) Single Packaged Gas/Electric Series, which is marketed under the Maytag®, Frigidaire®, Gibson® and Broan® brands, won a silver award for HVAC High Efficiency Residential Equipment, one of the DDA’s 13 categories.

While many manufactures offer ultra-low NOx equipment, the DDA’s 30-judge panel of HVAC contractors were impressed with the ULN Series’ printed circuit board design that enables factory pre-programming for minimizing NOx emissions, while also eliminating additional parts and time-intensive contractor jobsite calibration. Another NOx emissions reducer is the air intake/burner assembly, which uses a 3M Company-developed mesh fabric originally designed for the Space Shuttle to withstand 3,000°F temperatures without oxidizing. The ULN Series’ compact footprint also enables distributors to stock just one space-saving, universal curb size (horizontal or down flow discharge) for all six rooftop models, ranging from 55,000 to 100,000-BTUs and 2 to 5-tons.

The ULN Series’ NOx ratings range from 7 to 10-nanograms per joule (ng/j) and complies with Southern California’s nation-leading 14-ng/j standard for replacement equipment. The South Coast Air Quality Management District, Diamond, CA, estimates installing replacement units with a 7-ng/j rating could further reduce Southern California’s residential space heating NOx emissions by 15 to 20% in eight years.

“The ULN Series’ innovations are at the forefront of exceeding Southern California customers’ NOx emission needs as well as similar future environmental standards that other states will inevitably implement in the future,” said Dan Ayres, residential product manager, NGH.
