Sustainability is important to Major League Soccer and its fans, so GEODIS Park set out to feature products that not only help the environment, but also look and feel good to fans, patrons, and employees. That’s why the park specified a variety of products from Sloan—a one-stop shop of fixtures that save water, promote hygiene, and offer enhanced aesthetics throughout the restroom.

“The entire process was seamless,” said Dan Farrell, Vice President, Corporate Partnerships, Nashville Soccer Club. “The Sloan products were exactly what we were looking for. It was, from start to finish, a nice, smooth process.”

Score for Sustainability
GEODIS Park specified several touchless Sloan products for its restrooms, highlighted by the AD-83000 AER-DEC® Sinks. These cutting-edge sinks feature a soap dispenser, faucet, hand dryer, and sink basin rolled into one hands-free system that helps save water and reduce energy consumption.

The park also includes touchless, water-saving Royal® 111 SMO Exposed Sensor Water Closet Flushometers and Royal 180 SMO Exposed Sensor Urinal Flushometers. “We really valued Sloan’s collection of water-saving, hands-free products,” said Dan Farrell, Vice President, Corporate Partnerships, Nashville SC. “Nobody is touching any of the faucets or other fixtures after they use the restroom.”

Keeping it Clean
If you’ve ever used the restroom during a professional sporting event, you may have seen faucets running while no one is around and paper towels scattered on the floor. But Sloan’s touch-free restroom technology makes this frustrating experience a thing of the past at GEODIS Park. “Our bathrooms don’t look that way, and I think it’s due in large part to the products Sloan installed,” Farrell said. “They’re automated and very clean.”

Best of the Best

It’s only right that a state-of-the-art sporting venue should feature top-of-the-line amenities—from the concessions to the entertainment to the restrooms. GEODIS Park specified Sloan products in part because they’re eye-catching to everyone from soccer fans to concertgoers to business executives. “The products look slick,” Farrell said. “We’re really excited about the restroom experience that fans get at the stadium.”

Taking part in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new space were Graham Allen and Kirk Allen, Sloan co-presidents and CEOs and fourth generation descendants of company founder William Elvis Sloan.

The project represents Sloan’s largest showroom in North America and complements Sloan’s existing Mobile Showroom, as well as its Charles S. Allen Design Center in Andover, Mass., and Stone and Steel Showroom in Mesa, Ariz.

The Hub’s John Mesenbrink took part in some AR technology from the showroom.

Located on the building’s 10th floor, Sloan’s showroom space represents a return to the company’s origins, as Sloan was initially founded on nearby Jackson Boulevard prior to moving to its current Franklin Park headquarters in 1975. The new building features an office space and showroom, while Sloan’s manufacturing and corporate headquarters remains in Franklin Park.

“Sloan has been synonymous with Chicago since the company’s inception in 1906,” said Kirk Allen. “Today’s ribbon-cutting is a historic and exciting event as we expand our Chicago-area footprint with our new showroom and office space in the Fulton Market District, while returning to our roots where the company was built.”

The showroom features a wide range of Sloan products and innovations, including flushometers.

“The opening of the new Chicago office is an important component of Sloan’s continuous efforts to retain and attract new talent with state-of-the-art amenities, multiple locations, and flex working policies,” said Kim Darke-Miller, Sloan senior manager of strategic accounts. “With a cutting-edge collaboration center, product showroom, and offices, the Fulton Market District location enables Sloan to offer new and existing employees an amazing building and workspace.”

One Woodward stands as a symbol of Detroit’s renaissance. Situated in the center of Detroit’s Civic Center since 1962, the waterfront property experienced the Motor City’s economic boom of the 1960s, as well as the trying times of the 2000s and the city’s resurgence in recent years.

When the town fell upon harsh economic conditions and jobs in the automobile industry started moving elsewhere, even buildings as iconic as One Woodward suffered. In fact, the building’s occupancy dropped to as low as 20 percent in 2013 when the city’s population dipped by over one million people from its peak in 1950.

But as jobs began coming back to the area and companies like Bedrock Real Estate Services—a firm specializing in the strategic redevelopment of Midwestern urban cores — began purchasing downtown properties, the Motor City underwent a gradual revitalization. From a mere 20 percent occupancy in 2013 to becoming 100 percent occupied in 2017, One Woodward represents Detroit’s revitalization. And with hundreds of its sinks and flushometers specified for the building’s renovation, Sloan is a part of that transformation.

With the building undergoing an extensive redesign, Bedrock needed a product that could meet its plumbing needs. Bedrock specified 220 of Sloan’s ECOS® Flushometers as part of the 26-story building’s renovation, citing the products’ water conservation attributes. The ECOS® Flushometer has automatic dual-flush (1.6/1.1 gpf) or single-flush (1.1 gpf) high efficiency closet options, plus 0.5, 0.25 and 0.125 gpf high efficiency urinal flushometer options. ECOS® flushometers provide hands-free activation for improved hygiene in addition to their excellent water savings.

As part of its green building initiatives, Bedrock also installed 100 AER-DEC® Integrated Sink Systems throughout the building. With a soap dispenser, faucet, hand dryer and sink basin working together at arms-length as one touch-free and hygienic system, the beauty of the AER-DEC® is matched only by its flexibility. Building tenants including Quicken Loans, the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce, a dentists office and numerous law firms get to experience the future of restroom design with the three-in-one deck unit.
