Today’s high-efficiency hydronic heating systems rely on optimal water quality to maintain peak performance. Iron oxide sludge, also called magnetite, can destroy water quality and, in turn, affect total system health. This black sludge is an unavoidable result of oxidation inside untreated hydronic systems, and it can cause loss of system efficiency and expensive damage. According to Dr. Neil Watson, ADEY® Global Technical Director, “Nearly 70 percent of circulator pumps returned to pump manufacturers fail due to iron oxide and other water quality issues. Data also show that over 95 percent of debris in hydronic heating systems is made up of iron oxide.”
ADEY, a U.K.-based company launched in 2003, is introducing MagnaClean Micro2™ to the North American market to protect total system health. It features a unique, patented magnetic filtration system that, within minutes of installation, begins to capture and remove virtually all of the suspended iron oxide that collects in hydronic heating systems, restoring optimal water quality. MagnaClean Micro2 is specifically designed for smaller installations, making it ideal for tight spaces.
Designed for ¾-inch copper and ¾-inch NPT iron pipework, the MagnaClean Micro2 is suited for baseboard and smaller residential installations. The compact unit is easily fitted on the return pipe to the boiler/circulator via rapid-fit connectors. It can be installed in minutes and serviced even faster, due to the unit’s quick-release trigger, low-profile drain valve, and built-in air vent.

The search for more light on the jobsite without the hassle of carrying around a giant light source begins and ends with the Bosch GLI18V-1900 and GLI18V-1900 C Floodlights. Excellent illumination is provided by a cordless, high-power LED that offers 1900 lumen brightness.
This is reliable, all-day light that runs up to eight hours at 50 percent mode (5 Ah battery) or four hours at 100 percent mode (5 Ah battery). The two brightness settings offer lighting levels at 1000 lumens or 1900 lumens. Floodlight includes on/off switch. The GLI18V-1900 C offers Bluetooth® connectivity accessed through a corresponding app. In addition to controlling the light, the connectivity function allows the user to manage several lights simultaneously with one click. The two-way Bluetooth transfer chip ensures low power consumption between the light and a smart phone. The application is easy to use. The durable floodlight frame is compact and weighs less than two pounds. The GLI18V-1900 C offers the added advantage of tough water and dust resistant construction (IP protection 64). The user has the flexibility to select a variety of positions to effectively illuminate any large space. The light’s 120-degree angle adjustment offers five positions for perfect illumination. Set up is quick and easy thanks to adjustability and standard 5/8” tripod thread. Bosch Thermotechnology Corp. announced a new line of high-efficiency Climate 5000 Ductless Minisplit Heat Pump Systems, ideal for residential heating and cooling up to 48,000 Btuh, available for single-zone or multi-zone applications. These ultra-quiet, inverter-driven heat pump systems function properly across an extended operating range from minus 13 to 122 degrees F, with indoor sound levels as low as 20 dBA in “silent mode,” which is quieter than a whisper at a library.
These minisplit systems offer quiet comfort with a seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) rating of up to 22, far exceeding the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requirement of at least 14 SEER for minisplit systems. The intuitive indoor air handler regulates temperature levels in each room, and can be programmed for automatic operation. The “Follow Me” feature uses a remote sensor to heat or cool toward a set temperature based on a user’s location. The unit’s “turbo” feature speeds up the unit when users desire faster, on-demand comfort.
Easy Installation and Maintenance
Installation is simplified with easy mounting of the indoor air handler and quick connection of the refrigerant lines and electrical connections. The unit requires only a three-inch-diameter or smaller opening to run the entire line set. No ductwork is required, making the system perfect for tight spaces or areas where technicians cannot install ductwork, helping to eliminate potentially messy renovation work. Multi-zone system installation is made even easier with the auto-correction function, which verifies and automatically compensates for wiring/piping errors between indoor units and the outdoor section of the system.
The integrated multi-part filter system refreshes and cleans circulating air by reducing potential odors, allergens, viruses and bacteria. Additionally, the system traps dust, pollen, mites and other particles that plague people with allergies. The self-cleaning mode helps remove additional particles as well as moisture via water-wicking Blue Fin technology, thereby reducing mildew buildup.
The Climate 5000 Minisplit Heat Pump Single-Zone Systems are available in four capacities ranging from 9,000 to 24,000 Btuh, in both 115/120V (up to 12,000 Btuh) and 208/230V power requirements. An electronic expansion valve works together with smart inverter technology (variable speed compressor) to achieve the highest efficiency of a SEER 22 rating.
Climate 5000 Minisplit Heat Pump Systems are also available for multi-zone applications. The multi-zone systems enable one condensing section to be paired with two to five indoor air handlers. Multi-zone condensing sections are available in four capacities from 18,000 Btuh to 48,000 Btuh, in 208/230V. For more information, visit www.boschheatingandcooling.com.

The new UL 1995-compliant safety controller puts facilities almost three years ahead of the November 2019 deadline that requires all HVAC access points to automatically de-energize the UV-C system when opened.
Prior to the prewired system, contractors would have to individually install and wire each access point via conduit, increasing labor costs. The new prewired controller offers HVAC contractors a plug-and-play system, which regulates up to six safety interlock switches/access doors, greatly reducing this labor-intensive procedure.
“With its newly-incorporated 24V Contact Controller, the RLM Xtreme is way ahead of the game in meeting upcoming UL 1995 standards,” says Dan Jones, President of UV Resources. “Ensuring operator safety is our priority, and the prewired controller significantly minimizes the chance of accidental UV exposure. Furthermore, the 50 percent labor savings more than pay for the cost of the new controller.”
