Want to be a reputable contractor in your area? Want to grow your business? Servicing and maintenance with ADEY’s NEW ChemPack is a great way to do just that
It’s all well and good installing a brand-new system, or replacing an existing boiler for a new one, but is it protected by clean water? If not, is it protected by the warranty if it were to fail due to bad water quality?
The answer to the latter is becoming more frequently, a no. More and more manufacturers are no longer covering warranties if there’s proof of negligence. Imagine the loss of reputation and loss of income by installing components without validating the warranty.
The cost of protecting systems from the onset far outweighs the cost of replacing components due to bad water quality and is this something you should incorporate into your quote to the homeowner.
We all know it’s not as simple as that though and this is how you get over that obstacle!

- Show the homeowner the installation manual and warranty card– Installing a new boiler? Show the homeowner the warranty clauses to prove that servicing is a requirement and explain that their boiler will not be covered under warranty if it is to fail due to bad water quality.
- Replacing failed components? Show the homeowner– showing the homeowner the physical effects of corrosion and explaining how this happened is the “low hanging fruit”!
- ADEY’s MagnaClean® Professional2 ChemPack! Test and Solve, all in one box!
- Use the MagnaClean RapidTest on both new and retrofit installs to show the homeowner the magnetite content in any system. Seeing is believing!
- Up-sell the service: use the MC3+™ cleaner, MagnaClean® Professional2XP magnetic filter, and MC1+™ inhibitor for complete system protection!

Broomfield, Colo. — Viega LLC, the company which introduced pressing to North America, now has its own branded pressing tools for use with its fittings.
The Viega Pressgun 6 and Pressgun 6 Picco are now available in distributors and through Viega. The tools, which are the first in North America to carry the Viega name, cost less than similar press tools from other manufacturers and are an affordable way for contractors to adopt pressing.

“We know the cost of tools has been a barrier for some contractors who want to adopt pressing,” said Dominic Küng, Senior Manager, Product Portfolio. “The lower price of the Pressgun 6 and Pressgun 6 Picco will make it easier for those customers to buy a tool and begin realizing the enormous benefits of pressing.”
Tools aren’t a new offering for Viega. It has sold branded tools in Europe for years in collaboration with RIDGID, whichmanufactures the Pressgun 6 and Pressgun 6 Picco for Viega.

The Pressgun 6 is a no-frills, cost-efficient workhorse that can press up to 4″ ProPress copper and stainless and 2″ MegaPress with the V2 actuator and rings, as well as 2″ PureFlow PEX. Its features include:
- Eight-second press cycle
- LED display indicating number of presses left on a charge
- Steel cylinder head and jaw intake
- 270° rotating cylinder head
- Forward and backward compatibility with RIDGID batteriesThe less expensive and less powerful Pressgun 6 Picco can press up to 11⁄4″ ProPress with the C1 actuator and rings, 11⁄2″ PureFlow and 3⁄4″ MegaPress.
Neither tool can be used with the MegaPress XL PressBooster or MegaPress Z3 Actuator.
Both tools come with an 18-volt lithium-ion battery and charger. The 2.5/5.0 Ah battery offers 25% more presses per charge than the previous battery. It includes a battery life indicator. The charger comes with a standard 100-240V charging cord and a 12V DC charging cord so it can be charged off a vehicle lighter. The battery also features forward and backward compatibility with RIDGID batteries, chargers and tools.
“We’re excited to make it possible for additional contractors to become more efficient and productive through pressing,”Küng said. “They’ll find that the Pressgun 6 and Pressgun 6 Picco will revolutionize their businesses and quickly pay for themselves.”

Upgrades emphasize efficiency, boost savings
A. O. Smith, a leader in water heating and treatment, recently announced the launch of its newly upgraded A. O. Smith Mobile App, featuring demand response and time-of-use capabilities. Once connected to the A. O. Smith iCOMM™ Remote Monitoring platform, the app allows service professionals and homeowners to remotely monitor and control their water heater to improve performance, increase savings and reduce downtime.

Upgraded specifically for residential heat pump water heaters, the app allows homeowners to set specific temperatures and operating modes from their phone. It also makes it even easier to save money by integrating a heat pump water heater into the growing number of utility smart grid programs. Customers of utilities with time-of-use rates can further reduce their utility bill by having their heat pump water heater operate when electricity is least expensive.
Utilities can benefit from the app as well with the new demand response feature. Once a homeowner opts into the utility demand response program, the water heater can respond to signals sent directly from the utility, allowing the water heater to be used as a grid asset and helping to reduce utility bills.
“Energy and environmental regulations, at the state and local levels, are influencing the adoption of energy-efficient appliances and building resources,” said Arthur Smith, specialty residential product manager at A. O. Smith. “The updated app and new features provide additional value for industry professionals and customers to choose an eco-friendly heat pump water heater over a standard tank-type unit.”
When it comes to energy efficiency requirements, California’s building codes are some of the most progressive, but regulations have begun to spread across the country. Industry professionals anticipate that most of the country will eventually be impacted by stricter building codes, creating an even larger demand for energy-efficient technology.
“We’re also seeing more builders installing smart appliances to differentiate their properties and meet customer expectations for new homes,” said Ralph Perez, A. O. Smith senior sustaining business manager. “The app allows builders to offer smart home convenience with the utility bill savings of a heat pump water heater.”
