Des Plaines, Ill. — Geberit North America recently donated training materials to the Chicago Journeymen Plumbers’ Local Union 130 U.A. for the organization’s plumbing fixtures wet training lab in Joliet, which provides hands-on instruction and practical training for plumbing apprentices.

The donation included twelve Geberit in-wall carriers plus consumables for twenty installations, as well as various replacement parts and accessories, including the new Cast Iron Waste Fitting 367.072.18.1 with a 2” heel outlet for venting, designed to reduce material and labor costs during installation. In addition to the donation to the Joliet school, Geberit previously donated six carriers plus consumables for twenty-five installations to Local Union 130’s school in Volo.

“Local Union 130 has an incredible apprenticeship program that turns out highly skilled candidates,” says Ronn Jefferson, Product Manager for Geberit North America. “Quality plumbing is integral to everything that we do, and Geberit is proud to be able to support the education and training of new professionals joining the industry in Chicagoland.”

Local Union 130’s Joint Apprenticeship Committee runs a comprehensive 5-year plumbing apprenticeship program, which includes extensive on-the-job training and classroom training. The program aims to produce highly qualified plumbers who are able to succeed in handling the industry’s increasingly complex challenges.

“The generous donation from Geberit North America has facilitated the task of training with concealed water closet carriers and made it a much more practical, effective and valued hands-on experience,” says John Yock, Instructor for Local Union 130’s training program. “We have been able to transform our hands-on training into a much more substantial and meaningful experience for our program. Our commitment to training the best apprentice plumbers in the country is being realized through the esteemed generosity of Geberit North America.”

Geberit and Local Union 130 U.A. plan to collaborate in plumbing training, with a set of four classes for third-year apprentices from Local Union 130’s Chicago school scheduled for the week of July 16th in Des Plaines, IL.
