Grundfos held its fifth annual Walk for Water charitable benefit in Kansas City, Mo, and Aurora, IL., raising more than $35,000 for global water crisis relief.
Roughly 230 Grundfos employees and local participants joined the two events, designed to build awareness about the global water crisis and raise funds for safe, sustainable water solutions in developing countries.
In partnership with Water Missions International, the non-competitive, educational event is meant to illustrate the plight of people in developing countries who sometimes walk for miles each day to obtain water, which is often from contaminated sources. Halfway through the 3.5-mile walk, participants filled three-gallon buckets with water, simulating the literal burden of life in a developing nation.
Grundfos first held the event in 2012, and to date has raised more than $230,000 for Water Missions International, which has provided thousands of people with daily access to safe water in Haiti and Uganda.
“Walk for Water sheds light on the daily effort billions of people make around the globe just to get water and makes us appreciate our privilege,” says Bill Crooks, Customer Service Director at Grundfos. “We’re so grateful for the opportunity to raise awareness of this crisis and generate funds for its alleviation.”

BROOKLYN, N.Y., Sept. 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Petri Plumbing, a leading Brooklyn-based plumbing and heating company established in 1906, is taking compassion one step further. The company is opening up their hearts and pocketbooks to team with Bay Ridge Cares to help meet needs in the community.
Bay Ridge Cares is a nonprofit organization that began after Hurricane Sandy in 2012. In the 28 days after the storm, the newly-established Bay Ridge Cares Kitchen served more than 25,000 meals. According to director Karen Tadross, the organization just kept going. And Petri Plumbing was more than willing to jump in and help.Continue Reading Leading home services company “goes for gold” in September.
“There’s such tremendous need in our community for people to get involved and do whatever it is they can do,” says Michael Petri, owner of Petri Heating & Plumbing. “This has become a neighborhood tradition for the past three years, and one we’re proud to be a part of.”
“It’s like a Red Cross type thing in our community,” says Tadross. “Wherever the need is, that’s where we try to help.
“One year the organization raised more than $40,000 for a little girl with leukemia. Another year they helped a family who lost their house at Christmas time. Toy drives and coat drives make area kids a little warmer. Several playgrounds and parks in Bay Ridge and nearby communities have been refurbished.
And pediatric cancer is always at the forefront. With September being Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the emphasis is even greater.
In September, every year, Bay Ridge Cares raises awareness by having “Go Gold” month. This particular area of Brooklyn is festooned with lights, ribbons, and signs. At Petri Plumbing, the dress code changes for all the employees during September. Regular uniforms are switched for gold ones. And a portion of each invoice Petri generates goes to Bay Ridge Cares.
“I encourage everyone to ‘Go Gold’ in whatever way you can, for all the little warriors who are in the battle of their lives right now,” says Petri.
“Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of fifteen, yet there is very little funding directed toward pediatric cancers,” says Tadross. “In fact, only 4 percent of federal funding for cancer research flows to the laboratories that study pediatric cancer, and that is what we seek to change through awareness.”
“There are so many the little things that Michael Petri and his group do that make it just a little more special,” Tadross says. “He does things that never get any publicity, like help needy people if they need new water heaters, and just go the extra mile to instill that spirit of caring into his employees.”

Winsupply extends footprint along the Eastern seaboard with two new companies
Winsupply Inc., one of the largest distributors in the nation, has opened two new companies along the Eastern seaboard: Winsupply of Absecon, in New Jersey, and Winsupply of Rockland, in Maine. The openings represent the seventh and eighth companies Winsupply has opened during 2016.
The new location in Absecon, N.J, serves contractors in the plumbing, hydronics and new construction industries in Ocean, Atlantic and Cape May counties of New Jersey. The president of the company, Jim Yates, and his team have more than 75 combined years of experience in the plumbing and hydronics industries. Yates previously worked for plumbing supply companies in the region.
“Jim Yates decided to invest in a Winsupply company of his own after 26 years in sales and marketing for other wholesale distributors,” said Roland Gordon, president of Winsupply Inc. “The investment opportunity and equity partnership with Winsupply is something that isn’t offered by other major wholesalers in our industry. He’s very knowledgeable with the southern New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania market where he has experience as a wholesale branch manager as well as managing multiple branches in the region and helping them become profitable. Jim and his team have very strong relationships with the local plumbing and heating, and mechanical contractors.”
The Rockland, Maine, location serves plumbing, heating, air conditioning and ventilation (HVAC), and hydronics contractors in the mid-coastal region between Portland and Bangor, where Winsupply has existing locations in each of the latter cities.
The president of Winsupply of Rockland, Sam Irish, has been with Winsupply for more than 10 years and helped open Bangor Winsupply in 2014.
“Sam has a strong track record with opening and establishing a successful new business in a new location, experience that will serve him and his team well in Rockland,” said Gordon. “Sam and his team have 35-plus years combined experience in the hydronics, HVAC and plumbing industries, extending our distribution footprint along the important northeast coast.”
In the Winsupply co-ownership business model, Winsupply Inc. has majority equity in each of its locations, while the local company presidents and sometimes employees own substantial equity. With this model, local companies have the autonomy and flexibility to decide how best to meet the needs of the customers in their markets. Co-ownership gives them “skin in the game,” pride of ownership, a sense of achievement and the ability to share in the company’s performance financially. Winsupply provides the local company locations purchasing power, distribution and other support services such as business consulting, accounting, payroll, IT and marketing. The centralized support allows local operators to focus on their customers, local markets and products.
