Key Benefits: Energy Savings, Fresh Air Ventilation
Field Controls has developed two VentCool™ systems to help contractors capitalize on free cooling and deliver energy efficiency. The VentCool Automated System “bolts on” to an existing forced air system and VentCool Whole House Fan works independent of the HVAC system. Both provide dramatic energy savings and fresh air ventilation. Now contractors have a choice.
Saving on AC is just the beginning
The benefits of free cooling begin with dramatic energy savings. Free Cooling systems use up to 90% less energy than running compressor-based air conditioning units. As the cooler air circulates through the home, it cools the structure and everything in it. With this thermal mass cooling effect, traditional air conditioning isn’t needed until later in the day. This translates into less use of the AC system and greater cost savings.
Automated Free Cooling System – The “Residential Economizer”
The VentCool Automated Free Cooling System is one of the most innovative systems on the market. This state-of-the-art system is completely automatic and works in concert with an existing forced air system via the Integrated Ventilation Re-lay Center (IVRC). Indoor/outdoor temperature sensors automatically signal ultra-quiet, positive seal dampers and engage the central fan to bring in cool air while exhausting warm air. Field Controls Fresh Air Dampers are the most reliable de-sign on the market, rated at over 100,000 cycles. With controlled intake and exhaust vents, windows and doors can re-main closed, keeping the home safe and the air fresh. Four models provide a variety of sizes and configurations. The system can be controlled via smartphone, tablet or computer.
Whole House Fans for a New Era
The VentCool Whole House Fan includes six models that work independent of the central HVAC system. These self-contained units feature quiet, energy efficient ECM fans, insulated louvers and self-sealing dampers. Fresh air is pulled into the home through an open window or door and provides airflow from 884 CFM up to 4950 CFM. Insulated duct and ultra-quiet insulated fans minimize noise. These fans are activated manually and can be equipped with a timer and auto-matic shut off switch.
A New Profit Center and Energy Credits
VentCool Free Cooling Systems provide the contractor an additional source of revenue while providing a needed service for the homeowner. VentCool fans use about one tenth the electricity of a typical air conditioner and provide a welcome reduction in the homeowner’s utility costs. Contractors throughout the U.S. have found the homeowner more than recep-tive to the idea. All VentCool models meet or exceed ventilation requirements for ASHRAE 62.2 and qualify for California’s Title 24 free cooling energy credits.
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) reports that whole house free cooling systems are the most cost effective way to cool a home.

- For use with Bosch Greentherm Tankless Water Heaters
- Clean, efficient alternative to conventional furnaces
- When used with tankless water heater it produces both efficient heat and virtually endless hot water

- Single burner system on the tankless water heater promotes increased service life, requires lower maintenance than traditional furnace and hot water system
Bosch Thermotechnology Corp. launches its new Bosch Hydronic Air Handlers offering a more efficient, compact and advanced home heating system. When paired with the Bosch Greentherm Gas Condensing Tankless Water Heater, homeowners can benefit from a more efficient heating system with a virtually endless supply of domestic hot water.
The new Bosch Hydronic Air Handler can replace furnaces with a ducted system, eliminating the need for a gas pipe, venting and fresh air intake required for furnaces.
The entire system is easily managed by an integrated control board that connects to the home’s thermostat. When the thermostat calls for heat, the air handler immediately activates the integrated pump, turning on the fan 30 seconds later, allowing the heat exchanger to preheat to deliver comfortable warm air from start-up. After the thermostat is satisfied, the blower runs an additional 30 seconds to deliver conditioned air. The Bosch Hydronic Air Handler has an integrated pump timer that turns on the water circulator for 2 minutes every six hours to help prevent bacteria growth in the hot water system.
The Bosch air handler may be configured to work with A/C systems, providing a complete heating, cooling and hot water solution. When the thermostat calls for cooling, the control board activates only the blower.
The new hydronic air handler connects seamlessly with tankless water heaters, transferring the unit’s highly efficient hot water through a hydronic heating coil. As the hot water circulates through the pipe, warm air is sent through the residential duct system. The cool water in the hydronic coil then recirculates to the tankless unit to be reheated. Two models – AHU 50 and AHU 70 – can be sized with most cfm and BTU output ratings to suit most typical size homes.
Combining both the Bosch Hydronic Air Handler and an ENERGY STAR 95% EF-rated Greentherm Tankless Water Heater results in an ultra-efficient heating and domestic hot water system. Plus, the combined system can provide home heating and hot water simultaneously so homeowners don’t sacrifice comfort. The product carries a limited five year parts and one-year limited labor warranty (see full warranty details at www.boschheatingandcooling.com).

Building Health Check, LLC, a reseller (distributor) and marketer of the Halo Disinfection System™, which eliminates 99.9999% of Clostridium difficile (C. diff) spores in entire rooms announced the registration with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA Registration No. 84526-6). It is the first disinfectant fogging system validated by the EPA to kill Clostridium difficile (C. diff) spores.
The Halo Disinfection System™ also kills many other pathogens typically found in hospitals and healthcare environments using a patented solution of hydrogen peroxide and ionic silver applied in a dry mist by a cost-effective portable fogger.
The Halo Disinfection System incorporates the HaloFogger™ using the healthcare-grade HaloMist™ solution. The system is an easy-to-use, economic and highly effective alternative to “spray & wipe”, UV light and other disinfecting strategies. During hands-free use, the HaloFogger converts the HaloMist into a clear, odorless dry mist that reaches in and around every surface in an enclosed area. There is no need to mix the solution, nor is there any need for rinsing or wiping.
After application, HaloMist decomposes into water and oxygen molecules, dries on contact and does not harm sensitive medical equipment. The system does not contain or produce chlorine, hypochlorite (bleach), alcohol, aldehydes, phenols, ammonium compounds or sodium hydroxide. These toxins and harsh chemicals can be found in many other disinfecting solutions.
During a recent study of the HDS system at Pennsylvania Hospital, a 496-bed urban teaching hospital in Philadelphia, PA, infection control experts cut the rate of C. diff infections by 66% after deploying the HDS system in patient rooms, operating rooms and treatment areas. In a similar study, Southwestern Vermont Medical Center experienced a period of more than 6 months without a single hospital-acquired C. diff case. These results suggest that the system offers a comparatively simple, inexpensive way to comply with a federal mandate to reduce C. diff HAI infections 30% by 2016.
